If you’re missing your best friend, you can send latte money directly into her account to let her know you’re counting down the days until you’re together again in your favorite Saturday morning coffee shop.

Or you could send money for a virtual happy hour with your coworkers or to buy dinner for busy parents.

In these socially distanced times, more people are showing their friends and family they care through a friendly gesture using a secure person-to-person payment solution, also known as P2P.

Zelle® is a fast, safe and easy way to send money to, and receive money from, friends, family and others you trust with a bank account in the U.S. Available to millions of consumers in their mobile banking apps—or in the Zelle app if their bank doesn't yet offer it—Zelle transactions dramatically increased during the pandemic, up 64% over last year. In the third quarter alone, Zelle processed more than 323 million transactions, totaling $84 billion in money spent.

And now, BOK Financial, Bank of Oklahoma, Bank of Texas and Bank of Albuquerque clients have access to send money to friends and family using Zelle in their mobile banking app.

According to Zelle, 75% of its users are more likely to use P2P services to give cash to friends and family during the pandemic than other methods. In a survey released in September, the company found that most consumers would prefer to receive money in their bank accounts over actual gifts. This means recipients have the freedom to use the money however they wish, which could bring peace of mind in these uncertain times.

In a time with fewer face-to-face transactions, P2P payment is a convenient and safe option. Zelle is secure because money is sent directly to the recipient's bank account within minutes, and users don't need to share any sensitive financial or personally identifiable information.

A simple email address or U.S. mobile phone number is all that needs to be shared when using Zelle. Authentication and monitoring features provided by the sender’s and receiver’s mobile banking apps ensure security, though customers are urged to only send money to people they know and trust.

BOK Financial clients can begin using Zelle in four simple steps:

  1. Log in to your BOK Financial app. (You will need to download the latest version of our app to use Zelle.)
  2. Tap “Transfers” at the bottom of the screen, then select the Zelle icon.
  3. Enroll your U.S. mobile number or email address.
  4. Send money to friends, family and others you know and trust.
